Day 5

from Sketchtober by Patrick McMinn

/

about

From 10/5/2015:

I sampled a set of toy bells years and years ago, and they keep showing up in things. This time, they're triggered and controlled via SuperCollider, with the loop points for each sample drifting around the soundfile to create irrational rhythms and glitchy pops and clicks.
After improvising one pass, the bells were heavily processed via modular and a granulator, and I extracted a few noisy loops to act as a bed of sound over which the bell sounds could unfold. Then, I filled out the low end with a heavily-saturated bass synth I coded up a few months ago.
There's pretty deep bass on this one, so, if you're going to listen, give it a try on something other than smartphone speakers, please.
