Day 1

about

From 10/1/2015:

So many awesome folks are participating in this Drawlloween thing, and it got me thinking that I should do something similar with music. Mine won’t be Halloween — or even necessarily Autumn — themed, but I am going to try to post a new musical sketch every day for the month of October. I think I’ll call it ‪#‎sketchtober‬?

This one should have been posted yesterday, but I only had this idea this afternoon. The main layer was made by running old acoustic guitar improvisations through a modular synthesizer, the output of which was then pitch-shifted, sequenced, and then heavily filtered and granulated. The harmonic motion is simpler than I’m used to, but perhaps more direct because of it. Albert Schatz made tremolo-guitar motions at me and asked if it was Sigur Ròs when he heard the bleed from my headphones, so I think I’m headed in the right direction.
